When Diane Brumwell was diagnosed with ovarian cancer it was life altering for her, her family, and the countless individuals she had positively impacted throughout her lifetime. True to form, Diane tackled the disease with the strength of a warrior and an attitude that radiated courage.
Diane was always very passionate about helping others. She was always there to support anyone down on their luck or suffering momentary setbacks. It was a trait appreciated by others and admired by her family.
While Diane was battling a reoccurrence of her cancer her family decided to follow her legacy and do something to fight the disease. Diane's two sons, Ryan and Jason Brumwell, decided a charity event was in order. When the two young men merged their love for the game of basketball with their dedication to curing the disease Hoops for Hope was born!
Although Diane lost her courageous battle with cancer, her spirit and legacy lives on with the Diane Brumwell Hoops for Hope MemorialTournament. The charity has raised more than $50,000 over the past four years, all of which has been donated to cancer research.

All donations generated by the tournaments are given to the Jimmy V Foundation. The V Foundation was created by Jim Valvano and ESPN for the sole purpose of finding the cure for cancer. With the help of his family and friends they grew the organization and have donated $80 million since 1993. They give 100% of all direct cash donations and net event proceeds to cancer research and related programs. Click here to visit the V Foundation Website.

Hoops for Hope decided to go donate to the V foundation because its sole purpose is to find a cure for cancer. The V Foundation increases research by providing grants to students in the scientific community. Between 1994 and 2003 the V foundation has given 109 V Scholar grants to talented young researchers.
